Public tab
The Public tab setting makes a tab accessible to anonymous visitors so they can view its content without signing in. Configure it from Admin > Tabs > [your tab] > Public tab.

What anonymous visitors can see
When the Public tab toggle is on, anonymous visitors can browse the records in the tab. What they actually see depends on the tab’s other settings:
- Visible properties - configured in the tab’s Properties section.
- Page content - controlled by the View page content permission.
- Comments - controlled by the Comments permission.
Access rules also apply: visitors only see records that match the tab’s access rules.
What happens when a visitor tries to interact
Any write action triggers a Sign in to continue modal that prompts the visitor to authenticate first. This includes:
- Posting a comment
- Upvoting a record
- Creating a new record
Once signed in, the action goes through.
Combining with other settings
The Public tab setting works alongside Allow signups in General settings . See the Authentication doc for the typical use cases and how to combine these settings to shape your portal’s access model.
